| This category is all about cheap poker. Cheap ring games, cheap sit and go's, cheap multi-table tournaments, cheap heads-up - cheap everything. Ring games & sit and go's are most important, followed by multi-table tournaments, then heads-up tournaments. Rakes and tournament fees must be within industry standards to rank high, and there must be plenty of traffic (not much of a problem at these levels). Titan Poker shares the top rank for cheap ring games with Pokerstars, but Titan gets the overall edge for cheaper sit and go's and heads-up tournaments. They both have dirt cheap multi-table tournaments. Poker Host takes the 3rd spot over Doyles because their bonus is easier to clear. They're on the same network, so the games are identical. |

Playing low stakes poker can be both very profitable (relative to the stakes), and dangerous at the same time. There are landmines everywhere, and those that can learn how to stay away from the landmines can make nice profits. The problem at these levels is that nobody ever folds. We suggest playing extremely aggressive when you feel strongly that you have the best hand. Otherwise, stay away from big pots. Most players at these levels aren't paying attention to who's playing tight and who's playing loose. They also don't particularly care if they lose $.23 on a hand. What this means is that when you make a big hand, you'll get called more often than you might think, even with big bets. So, bet big when you've got the best of it. On the flipside, don't play as many marginal hands in the ultra-low stakes. At these levels, there are typically going to be more players to the flop, meaning more hands that can ultimately beat you. Also, players at these levels will play bad starting hands which are unpredictable. If you hold AK with a flop of K, 10, 7, there is a better chance that someone has two pair at this level than in higher levels. Of course we aren't telling you to fold AK, but we are trying to help you realize that your hands need to be stronger at these levels when it comes to risking your entire stack. In general, pay more attention to your opponents than they are paying you. Figure out how each players is playing, take notes, then play them based on the knowledge you've learned about them individually. |
